Church Mural Restoration, 150 yr. old Roman Catholic

This 150 year old Roman Catholic Altar mural was originally made on canvas, but due to extensive water damage only the figures remained, and they also needed major restoration. After the scaffolding was built an airbrush was the perfect tool to render the sky, city and mountaintop of the crucifixion. The 40ft. dome posed its own problems with the distortion of the images so the spray equipment proved most invaluable. The figures were then carefully recolored and their expressions enhanced using traditional brush skills. Attention was given to retaining the original outlines of the figures for the historical significance and the Priest's desires. Below the mural I also produced some 2ft. high gilded scripture and marbleized some furnishings to match the existing pedestals. All of the paint used were liquid artist acrylics and it took about 2 weeks for completion.More can be seen at www.hudsonreporter.com/A visionary artist and www.stevenpeabody.houzz.com
