The Donavan House

The Donavan house is a 1922 historic home in Ventura California. The owner decided to take a run- down home with a beautiful ocean view and instead of replacing the 33 windows, restore the originals. This included weather-stripping, to provide comfort and energy savings that the original home never had. This was all done for the purpose of reselling the home to a buyer that would appreciate the early 1920’s architecture. This buyer would get to enjoy windows made of original old growth Douglas fir wood, and unique French bi-fold doors leading to a balcony off the master bedroom. Those beautiful Douglas fir wood windows went from having damaged wood, with out of square (crooked) openings, and leaking air and water, to becoming beautiful, fully functioning, weather-sealed, 94 year old windows.
