The Perfect Union

To create this unique sculpture for the San Diego Botanic Garden, Pat Downing started with two 16-inch by 10-foot sheets of copper. Using a technique called Foldforming, he folded each sheet in half and hammered, creating texture and moving the copper into the curves. From afar, it appears to be two wave-like sculptures, but when viewed from just the right angle, the two sculptures form a heart.
