COMMISSIONED PROJECTS
George Fishman's mosaic artwork is created on a custom basis for homes, churches, cruise ships and othersettings. The designs are original and are developed in collaboration with clients' goals and fantasies. Since 1989, the artist has designed and executed mosaic commissions for municipal, corporate, hospitality, religious and residential clients -- identifying projects' thematic and functional requirements and implementing them from design to installation. Projects include medallions, murals, columns, pools and fountains in eleven states.
"Working in mosaics involves a continual effort to strike a balance between the urge to elaborate with pictorial information and the urge to maintain an economy of expression, in which the tesserae keep their rawness and independence from the illusion of representation. This tension is important to me. I want the viewer to look into the picture, but remain aware of the surface."
