Restoration of Homes for Living
The restoration of an antique house for the purpose of a Home is far different from restoration for use as a House Museum. Accomodation and integration of modern technologies, appliances, mechanics should not take away from the antique character of the house. At the same time, the livability of the house as a home for real people in the 21st Century requires some compromises to historic accuracy. A home should be comfortable, efficient, and provide the requisite convenineces, as well as supporting and enriching the lives of its occupants. The degree which we depart from pure historic accuracy should be in large part determined by the desires and needs of the owners whose lives it will shelter. At the same time, we, as lovers of antique detail have a responsibility to preserve as much as possible those details. So, we walk a fine line. Open this portfolio to learn how we have done this in some of our projects.
