Space Age Painting

After many years of practice, first initiated in 1979, and after much contemplation, our method to preserve an exterior of older buildings has changed.

What changed. We  did. We took a chance. We wished to create a supple and resilient effect on the surface. One undisturbed by the constant fluctuations of the Midwestern weather pattern.

Deciding to change the process, we reduced the amount of paint applied. This led us to make a discovery.  There had to be a better way than coating the surface of a sately rsidence or the facade of a historic commercial building every four or five years.

When we applied specific chemicals, a bonding agent, before applying the top coat we experienced lasting results.

Consequently, the amount of paint we now use has altered. We now use less paint and more bonding agent.

Weather is a factor yet with improved chemical compounds, it is far easier today to keep the gleaming colors vibrant.  By applying a film on the foundational layers or substrate, we encouraged "breathing". The substrate mut "breathe". Modern paint must  adhere to the substrate differently. It has to expand and contract to actually" breathe".

However, top coats or the last layers of applied paint must also "Float". With our current practice, paint is now "suspended" on a bonding film.

Wrapping a building with Tyvek Brand keeps out cold and wind. A vapor barrier to damp and mold too. Wrapping an exterior of an older building with a bonding primer and top coats to follow forms a " suspension" which will last far longer than four or five years. Some of our work has lasted fifteen without obvious failure.

Try it and enjoy your savings and apply them to your next trip to a desert Island.
