Scagliola is a highly decorative plaster made from gypsum (plaster of paris) pigmented with earth or mineral pigments to produce color to resemble natural marble or granite. The work is then polished to a marble like finish. Scagliola can thus be used in any application for which plaster or stone would be appropriate, including walls, columns and capitals, furniture, sculpture and so forth. Scagliola artisans may also be called upon to restore or repair existing work.
